people ;-)
Dan, who was one of the developers of UpMyStreet Conversations, has finally given up his one man battle against the forces of evil: malbec: UMS Conversations. The forces of darkness even seeped into the comments on his own blog when he discussed this previously.
A similar phenomenon was noted by Clay Shirky and others recently when the highly respected BBC Radio Today Programme allowed listeners to vote for legislation to go before parliament, resulting in the rather sad outcome of a Labour MP agreeing to put forward a bill that would allow homeowners to shoot intruders on sight.

of course, there's always the comfort of the "silent majority" idea that says these views are not representative of the population as a whole, just some organised loudmouths :-)
