Simple, commodity tools for public consultation

The Ofcom PSB Review blog is a great example of how simple commodity services such as Typepad, Slideshare, and Youtube can be used to support a consultation process. Ofcom is the UK regulator and competition authority for TV, radio, telecoms and wireless communications, and they are in the process of looking at the important issue of Public Service Broadcasting, which is arguably the best and most well known strength of the UK industry.

The Ofcom PSB Review Interactive Executive Summary is a simple, but neat way to encourage feedback on aspects of their review, which breaks the document down into chunks that can each be linked to or commented upon. It is an approach we have used before for online consultations, and which the brilliant They Work For You have adopted to allow comments on individual contributions to parliamentary debates.
