Headshift USA! All Go!!

As of November 11 Headshift becomes even more international. After having opened offices in Paris, Sydney and Zurich we are now officially setting foot on American soil and will establish a presence in New York.

New York was our primary choice, as we have two clients there already, among them Dewey & LeBoeuf, one of the largest US based law firms. Another important reason is Headshift's long and vast experience applying social software to real-world business needs of organisations operating in the legal, professional service and financial sector.

Even though one may argue that this is not the best time to expand a business, we believe that the products and services we offer can actually help organisations to master these uncertain times. Understanding the power of inexpensive, lightweight, social tools and applying them in ways meaningful to end-users can make businesses more efficient, more innovative and in the long run more successful. Thanks to the economic turmoil the days of expensive, heavyweight, enterprise tools that are trying too much and achieve too little are hopefully counted once and for all. Furthermore, with the economic slowdown it is predicted that we will very soon witness a drastic fall in consumer spending. As a result of that, competition will become even fiercer. Brands will need to come up with new, innovative ways to market their products and services.

Something like Metrotwin for example, which was created for British Airways as a collaboration between Agency.com, BBH, Made by Many and Headshift (we were responsible for technical development and implementation, based on our experience of building large customer-facing social applications such as Motoraddicts and the BBC's Blog Network). Metrotwin is an online community for people living in and frequently flying between London and NYC. It 'twins' neighbourhoods, businesses, attractions, places and people. Given the fact that I have lived in London for two years and will now be relocating to NYC, I gave it a shot.

As I love being outdoors I was happy to find the equivalent to Hampstead Heath in NYC, which seems to be Todt Hill on Staten Island. Other interesting places I found via Metrotwin are:

All in all, it's a smart way for BA to interact with its customers and offer them added value that complement existing services.

I am not quite sure though how much time I will have to check out those locations, while getting the Headshift office up and running. For now I will spend my time on looking for ways of twinning our existing UK/FRA/AUS/CH clients. If you are thinking about using social tools either within your organisation or to reach out to customers and would like to know more about the projects that we have developed so far, we should have a chat. I will be in in NYC as of November 11. But in the meantime, please help to spread the word. Headshift USA!!  All Go!!

Congratulations Christoph! Now *is* the time for savvy organizations to gain a bit of competitive advantage through strategic use of social software. I hope you and Headshift are successful in your quest to establish a U.S. presence!

Thanks for your words, Larry! I agree, that now *is* the time, and not only because of the economic downturn.

Organisations that have treated social software projects as a pure technical implementation are not getting the benefits they hoped to achieve. This will hopefully also generate some interest in the projects that we have done and the special process that we are following to ensure a wide adoption.

Have a look at Mary Abraham's blog post on Web 2.0 romance.

imteresting post, though I am quite surprised you don't explicitly credit BBH, who first conceived the idea of Metrotwin, and Made by Many, who developed the design and overall realization of the idea.

Hi Ben, many thanks for your comment. I'm surprised you didn't see the credits to ACOM, BBH, and MxM, all of which are clearly mentioned with links to their respective sites. The post has gone through a couple of versions, so I wonder if it's a propagation issue? Anyway, hope this clears things up!

Ha! Well we're 5 hours behind you, and can see it's been revised just recently. Cheers.

Hi Ben, the last revision of the blog post was about 10am (GMT) / 5am (EST) this morning. That's quite an early time to submit a comment if you are based in NYC. Again, I think it's down to a technical issue, but you may want to call me to discuss if you like. Thanks.
