Redefining interactive learning for children

by

Elearningpost has spotted this interesting piece from Guardian Education: E-learning | Developing a child-centred design process
The author suggests four stages of developing a better process
1. designers and developers working in this industry need to involve children in the design proces
2. they need to be aware of the most appropriate research processes for their target age group
3. they should aim to understand how their target age group perceive the world and how they learn through play
4. initial concepts should be derived from the perspective of children as much as possible
She concludes
“Designers and developers making products for children need to move away from the limitations of national curriculum guidelines and existing pedagogical methodologies to embrace the exciting new learning opportunities that interactive technologies offer. Future interactive learning products for children need to support their natural desire to explore and discover, make their own connections and find their own “learning” paths, allowing them to be part of developing future ways of learning.”
