In the spirit of yesterday’s Blog Action Day for the environment, NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology & the Arts) is launching an innovative prize competition for a greener approach in community life today. We at Headshift have been lucky to be involved in the project
The Big Green Challenge from NESTA is a £1 million prize fund designed to encourage and reward people working together. NESTA want people to develop and implement new innovative approaches to saving energy and reducing CO2 emissions in their communities
The big challenge is to reduce CO2 emissions by 60% in a local, regional or more dispersed kind of community. Any not-for profit group or organisation can apply between January and February 2008. The best ideas will then be selected and the ten finalists have a year to put their big green idea(s) into practice with the help of NESTA. The winner will be announced in late 2009 receiving the majority of the £1m fund
What I so like about this project is that it aims at the big green picture encouraging people to join forces tackling climate change from inside their communities, groups and organisations. Look forward to see imaginative, social and fresh solutions to save energy that work for people in the real world
