At Headshift we like to think that we’re doing what we can to combat climate change, and we’ve taken some practical steps – our water coolers have disappeared, to be replaced by filter jugs; and rather than petrol-guzzling Mercedes taxis we’re using a fleet of Priuses for the occasions when it’s not practical to get to meetings by tube, for example
But our efforts are small-scale compared to some of our clients – Greenthing has been helping people to reduce their carbon footprint with the aid of small green plasticine creatures for a number of months now And now there’s another project which we’re rather proud of, this time for the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts, or NESTA to their friends
They’ve launched the Big Green Challenge, a £1m prize fund to encourage groups in the UK to work together to come up with innovative schemes for reducing carbon output. It’s aimed at all kinds of not-for-profit groups who can put their ideas forward to win a share of the prize fund. Over the course of a year, NESTA’s experts will help the groups put their ideas into practice, with the most innovative and effective scheme winning the lion’s share of the prize
We’ve been working with NESTA to build the website through which you can apply, as well as the competition management system behind-the-scenes – all built from 100% recycled electrons. But the deadline for submissions is rapidly approaching – ideas have to be entered by February 29th (see, you get a whole extra day for free!)
