Two eagerly anticipated upgrades for our toolkit last week
First, Movable Type 4.2 is now on general release, as Anil Dash reports. More details from Byrne Reese. It is a much needed upgrade, offering substantial performance increases as well as bringing the excellent Community Solution into the main product. It also has OpenID and OAuth support baked in, as well as improved APIs, activity feeds and more
So, if you are looking to create a social network based around blogging and/or discussion, MT is now a very good choice of platform indeed. And, of course, we have lots of experience doing just that, having worked with these features since they were in early development
Second, for Confluence wiki users, the new 2.9 release offers over 150 user-requested changes and fixes, as Susan Scrupski reports. Among these changes are two particular features that I know will be of interest to many of our clients

• The Office Connector allows users to edit documents in MS Office and embed them automatically in wiki pages.
• The Sharepoint Connector (now officially released in 2.9) allows two-way integration between Sharepoint and Confluence.

These last two additions to the platform go a long way towards answering Doug Cornelius’s question: What to do with Sharepoint wikis? The answer, as Doug suggests: use Confluence!
