Livio Hughes
Livio is a Director of Headshift, which he co-founded in 2002 after six years as CEO of a large London-based new media agency. In addition to his business management role, Livio leads the consulting on many projects working with both public sector and corporate clients.
Livio's interest in the Internet stems from the time when - as a postgraduate student using the medium for research - he first grasped the excitement of the paradigm shift implied by direct communication, the bypassing of traditional media, self-representation, and the emergence of new and largely untested economic, social and cultural models.
Areas of special interest include business models for competing in the digital economy, globalisation, media convergence, online communities, and the application of social computing technologies for collaboration and informal knowledge sharing.
In a previous life, Livio lectured on several political theory courses at the University of Westminster in London, and undertook research under world-renowned democracy theorist Professor John Keane. Livio has also taught current affairs and media studies at the City Literary Institute and provided research and consultancy on political issues to national and international news and current affairs programmes.
Livio is currently an associate professor of Social Media at the Instituto de Empresa in Madrid. He is fluent in Italian.
