International Law Firm

Headshift was asked by this international Law Firm to consult and advice on a system that would help them share and access knowledge across different parts of their global practice.

Improved knowledge and information management
The goal of this project was to advise the client on a system that would allow easy access and sharing of information between different parts of the organisation, and thereby increasing the value of its tacit and explicit knowledge-base.

After an initial survey of the company's communication behaviour, its culture and its user's requirements, we suggested a solution that had at it's core the customised use of the open-source wiki-platform MediaWiki.

An open "Wikipedia-style" solution to collaboration
The MediaWiki open source platform was chosen while the client wanted to take a global expansive "Wikipedia" approach to knowledge accumulation and sharing, rather than a segmented "thought silo" system, according to practices, sectors or departments.

The underlying idea was to cross populate practices and jurisdictions with information about clients, products, industry news and innovation, and to make a bridge to customer relationship management and product marketing.

This wiki would therefore demand a variety of landing pages and template layouts, all within a consistent, easy to use navigation system.

Making sharing of expertise an integral part of the working day
This international law firm sought the expertise of Headshift to help them make the sharing of competence and knowledge a natural part of their working day. The social media solution we suggested focused on making the exchange of information across departments and borders much easier - a system that would greatly improve the quality of collaboration within the organisation.
