The Saatchi Gallery online represents a radically open, uncensored and eclectic approach to art. Artists from all over the world can upload their art for public viewing in a space that showcases their work to thousands of daily visitors. An editorial group blog sits alongside this user-generated content, giving context and insights to all current activities in the global art world.

Facilitating a mix of editorial and user-generated content
Headshift contributed to this amazing project by integrating a set of social tools that would enable the vision held by Charles Saatchi and his team.

The editorial blog was built on the Movable Type platform and works as a depository for a large group of bloggers based around the world. Their pieces comment on current developments and events in the art world, and are open for comments from readers.
 
The user-generated platform is built on the open source platform Word Press and consists of artists pages as well as a section that lets readers review art-shows for the general public. A chat functionality was also integrated into the portal, and built on the open source community tool Drupal.
 
All the different elements are highly integrated into the rest of the site and do not draw attention to themselves as stand-alone tools, but rather create a sense of seamless flow and openness.

Uncensored, eclectic - very successful
The approach taken by The Saatchi Gallery is one that understands the web well. Instead of creating a hierarchical, censored and elitist portal they have gone for complete openness, eclecticism and user-generated content.

Headshift supported Charles Saatchi's team by tightly integrating a set of social tools that helped the site reach its potential.

The site is highly successful, attracting tens of millions of hits daily, both from active participants and more casual browsers.
